Noninvasive Prognostic Procedure That Predicts Tumor Growth Rate

چکیده
The Breast Cancer Detection and Demonstration Projects (BCDDP) that were carried out by the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute (USA) between 1973 and 1981 evaluated breast thermography as a diagnostic procedure for breast cancer. From the results of the BCDDP study the American Radiology Society concluded that thermography was ineffective as a diagnostic procedure in breast cancer. However, with the abandonment of breast thermography in the United States hrther large-scale studies to determine its value in predicting the risk of breast cancer and as a prognostic indicator were not pursued. This study demonstrates the prognostic significance of breast thermography for the breast cancer patient and further relates the thermal characteristics of the breast to the growth rate of the breast cancer patient’s tumor.

Contrast-Enhanced CT Density Predicts Response to Sunitinib Therapy in Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Patients
The first-line therapy in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), sunitinib, exhibits an objective response rate of approximately 30%. Therapeutic alternatives such as other tyrosine kinase inhibitors, VEGF inhibitors, or mTOR inhibitors emphasize the clinical need to predict the patient's response to sunitinib therapy before treatment initiation. In this study, we evaluated the prognostic valu...
متن کاملPre-treatment tumor-specific growth rate as a temporal biomarker that predicts treatment failure and improves risk stratification for oropharyngeal cancer.
PURPOSE To assess the relationship between tumor-specific growth rate (TSGR) and oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) outcomes in the HPV era. METHODS/MATERIALS Primary tumor volume differences between a diagnostic and secondary scan separated ⩾7days without interval treatment were used to estimate TSGR, defined as percent volume growth/day derived from primary tumor volume doubling time for 85 OPC pat...
متن کاملAJAP1 expression modulates glioma cell motility and correlates with tumor growth and survival
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the most common primary malignant brain tumors. Unraveling the molecular and genetic complexity that determines GBM's pronounced migratory property could provide new options for therapeutic targeting that may significantly complement current surgical and chemoradiation therapy and alter the current poor outcome. In this study, we establish stable AJAP1 ov...
متن کاملExpression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor and the association with Demographic and Prognostic Factors in Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer
Introduction: Growth, proliferation, survival, and differentiation are the prominent characteristics of cells, which are affected by cancer. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays a pivotal role in the effective control of these features. Given the significance of EGFR signaling pathway in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), EGFR expression is influential on these cell characteristics. I...
متن کاملASL and susceptibility-weighted imaging contribution to the management of acute ischaemic stroke
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a central role in the early diagnosis of cerebral vascular events. Today, MRI is used not only for the detection of acute ischaemic lesions, but also to fine tune the diagnosis and improve patient selection for early therapeutic decision-making. In this perspective, new tools such as arterial spin labelling (ASL) and susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) s...
